Recently I have received a number of inquires as to updates and photos for events CTp traditionally covers over the Spring and Summer seasons, and I wanted to address these questions in one fell swoop if I may.

As with most photography studios, our season of choice here at CoverThis Photography is Summer. When the birds come out and the flowers… well, flower… business kicks in to gear. This year, however, CoverThis Photography must take the season off to focus on family health and recovery.

Fear not, however, all of the events that CTp has covered in the past are still being covered in the interim. What businesses/individuals are filling in for CTp, I do no know, but I do know that things are still Covered.

I know that some events are being transparent about this, but judging by some of the messages I have received, there are a few who are not relaying this information on to their patrons. I have not been informed of any of this information, and unfortunately my only advice is to contact your promotor/event directly if they have not published who their Photographer or Videographer is/was this season. If you find out, please feel free to post any information you have gleaned in the comments below, I am sure there are more people who would be interested in such information as well.

Again, I am sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

IBMA 2011

We had the pleasure of attending the 2011 International Bluegrass Music Association convention this fall, in association with our partner, Thomas Point Beach of Brunswick, Maine. We had a great weekend in Nashville, Tenn, and met lots of great bands. The 2012 Thomas Point Beach Bluegrass Festival is going to be one great event, and we are really excited to see what is in store.

CoverThis has a new Studio!

For years, CoverThis Photography has billed it’s self as an “On-Location Photography Studio,” bringing the lights, backdrops and equipment needed to the doorstep of the client. This has been a great process that has worked well for quite some time. I have had the pleasure of traveling to and seeing quite a bit of the state of Maine and New Hampshire, and I wouldn’t trade the hours spent on the road for anything. And while we will continue to provide the to-the-doorstep service as we have, this summer has brought a change that will forever change the way CoverThis does business.

This past September saw the soft opening of CoverThis Photography’s new studio, located in the main lodge in the heart of beautiful Thomas Point Beach in Brunswick, Maine. Our new location, long since retired as a source of gifts, food and refreshing treats at Thomas Point, provides CoverThis Photography with anything and everything one could ever want for a beautiful outdoor photography session, within footsteps of the studio door. Beautiful Thomas Bay, including Thomas Point Beach it’s self, and pristine marsh area, rolling fields (both manicured and wild), wooded groves, props of all nature, and miles of wooded trails are all at our finger tips, as well as a fully-stocked indoor studio, for when ultimate control is a must.

“Pulse Performs”

This weekend CoverThis Photography had the opportunity to be a part of “Pulse Performs,” a presentation of the Studio for the Living Arts DanceCenter of Yarmouth, Maine. The performance was held at the Yarmouth High School on March 12th, and was a collection of over Thirty performances by what seemed like hundreds of very talented young adult dancers from the Southern Maine area. It was a delight to watch and a pleasure to cover

About Pulse (from their flyer): Pulse Dance Company (originally named “Full-FX”) was established in 1992 through Studio for the Living Arts DanceCenter, located in Gray, Maine. Pulse is a 68 member youth performing group of serious, passionate, and energetic dancers between the ages 9 and 18. The “Pulse” training program combines superior instruction, performance opportunities, and a strong connection to community service.

2011 Miss America Pageant, “Hello old Friend.”

A number of years ago, when I first started shooting for the Miss Maine Scholarship Pageant, I had the pleasure of attending the Miss America Scholarship Pageant in Las Vegas. It was a different time, a time when I had more time to do such things.

A lot has changed since then, I have developed my skills as a photographer, I am a sharper business man, and my goals have become more focused. Not to mention my equipment has changed quite drastically (you try shooting in the Aladdin Theater [Theater for the Performing Arts] with a $300 camera).

Suffice it to say, Vegas and CoverThis Photography go way back, and this year I had the pleasure of revisiting the City of Lights to cover the 2011 Miss America Scholarship Pageant on behalf of the Miss Maine Scholarship Program, once again. Just like old times.

This time, however, CoverThis was accompanied by the talented Jennifer Wolfe, who took care of Press Releases and a very nice exclusive for the Topsham Cryer (to be dual-released in March and June) on behalf of the Miss Maine Scholarship Program. “Know you’re strengths” they say, and CoverThis does not write Copy.

Unlike years past, CoverThis will not be offering photos of the complete Miss America Scholarship Pageant for sale this year. If you are interested in purchasing images of the 2011 Miss America Scholarship Pageant, you are encouraged to visit the Official Miss America Photo Store (when I shot the pageant last, the store was located here, this may have changed this year, I do not know).

This year CoverThis covered the Pageant for the Miss Maine program exclusively. This lowers our workload, and allows us, in addition to being able to enjoy our time in Glitter Gulch, to provide a better product to the people we are serving (nifty, huh?).

2010 Miss Maine Scholarship Pageant

The 2010 Miss Maine Scholarship Pageant has wrapped up, and it certainly provided two incredible nights!

CoverThis Photography would like to wish our two new title-holders, Arikka Knights (Miss Maine 2010) and Marybeth Noonan (Miss Maine’s Outstanding Teen 2010) a hearty congratulations, and a job well done!

This year’s pageant was dedicated to our dear friend and producer, the late Robert Towle, who passed away this spring. The highlights were straight from Robert’s notebook, it was his dream, and it was seen through beautifully. Stand outs were, well, everything! Talent was top notch, all of the girls were on top of their game during interview, and the performances were spectacular. We really couldn’t have asked for a better pageant, and I like to think we made Robert proud.

2010 World Cup Bull Riders Championships

It was a great weekend, with an amazing turnout, great food, awesome music, and some of the best Bull Riding a person could ever hope to see. Deja Vu even came in all the way from Brazil! Just incredible.

2010 Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Race

I had the pleasure of shooting the Annual Kenduskeag Stream Canoe race yet again this year. I have had the luck of having a number of my friends in the race over the past few years, and while I am not the “official” Photographer for the race (is there one?), if I am going to take photographs for friends, I might as well share the wealth.

I was camped at Six-Mile Falls, for the majority of the day (made a jump to Washing Machine around 12 o’clock) and got quite a few boats, and a majority of the action. I was unable to get each and every boat, but if you finished before 2pm, chances are I got you.

2010 Miss Maine Spring Clinic and Gala

Pageant season is right around the corner, and we just wrapped up the 2010 Miss Maine Spring Gala!

It was a great day that went off without a hitch.

The Miss Maine Spring Gala is a time for the young women competing in the Miss Maine Scholarship Pageant to meet and learn from the volunteers of the Pageant, as well as each other. There are various coaching sessions on Public Speaking, approaching Interviews, Etiquette, Beauty and Skin care, and Networking and Fundraising. The day was long (starting at 8 AM and finally drawing to a close with the Gala at 10 PM), but much was learned as girls were put through their paces during Mock Interviews, Talent Critiques and Wardrobe Consultations, in preparation for the 2010 Miss Maine Scholarship Pageant.

There were even a few vendors on hand offering everything a Pageant Girl needs to survive (Gowns, Earrings and Necklaces; the essentials) and each girl was given the chance to have a personal one-on-one with Miss Maine 2009, Susie Stauble, to get in the mind of a current Title Holder. It was basically a pageantry boot-camp, and something I would suggest any woman considering competing in a pageant should experience.

In addition to the Miss and Teen Contestants, the Pine Tree Princes program was there for their own workshops and a private Tea Party with Susie.

After the afternoon Clinic, the evening began with the 2010 Miss Maine Spring Gala, with many auction items on display, and the 2010 Maine’s Got Talent Finals for entertainment. All of the 2010 Miss contestants in attendance took the stage in the end to showcase their talent numbers for the 2010 pageant, wrapping up an awesome day.

I was very proud to get a chance to CoverThis event, and I eagerly await the 2010 Pageant in June!
