Almost 3 weeks from the first release, and I am just about spent! SmugWP has reached version THREE!!

New in this version:

• Support for WordPress 2.5’s Media Upload Browser. To browse, select, and insert images from the user’s SmugMug account, into the current Post or Page.
• Support for Lightbox 2 valid link insertion (and the WP Lightbox 2 plugin).
• Support for WordPress 2.5’s Shortcode functionality.
• Slightly better handling of user options and variables within the program it’s self
• Is now a bit nicer about reading and making writes to the WordPress Options table (less load on the WordPress back-end).
• Just a touch nicer to SmugMug on the number of queries it sends.
• About two to three hundred more lines of code.
• Two teaspoons of sugar
• And a half-cup Smug.

Quite the exciting afternoon I shall say!

What did you do on your Saturday? I spent mine on the out-skirts of Bangor, Maine, squatting perilously close to the raging Kenduskeag Stream, at Six-Mile-Falls, during the 22nd annual Kenduskeag Canoe Race.

I just so happen to have a few friends participating in the event this year, so of course, you can guess who was covering it!

I got quite a few amazing shots off this afternoon. All of which can be found and purchased (in digital form) in my 2008 Kenduskeag Canoe Race gallery. Purchases are for the full digital files, at incredibly reasonable prices.

“How can a plugin go from Version 1 to Version 2 in only TWO days?!”

Well I’ll tell you. Diligence, my friend. And low standards.

I had one desire for Version 1; to validate a SmugMug Gallery ID, and redirect the user to that gallery if it exists and is owned by the correct person. Once I figured that out, I figured I had everything I wanted, and called it “good” (otherwise known as “Version 1″).

However, as I looked further in to the WordPress API, I slowly realized that if I were to offer this as a “WordPress Plugin” it was going to need an Options page, and it was going to need a more secure and versatile way to store data. With that, the grounds for Version 2 were set (not even 12 hours after reaching my first milestone).

So here you have it. Version 2, with a full-fledged WordPress interface.

Is this the end? Probably not. As I go I realize just how easy it is to code under WordPress, and I have some ideas to make this plugin live up to it’s name, and really bring SmugMug and WordPress together in a big way. We shall see…

There are only 5 copies of this photograph in existence, one of which is my personal copy, and another which is going to be auctioned off at the Maine Red Cross Gala on the 8th of March, leaving 3 for sale, period.

This panorama was stitched together from nine vertical frames, shot on a Konica-Minolta Maxxum 5D, and stitched together in HuginOSX on a Macbook Pro. The resulting image, after distortion correction, color correction, and a mild crop, is 6 inches tall, by 30 inches wide, with a resolution of over 300dpi. Rendering a sharp, vivid image sure to stand out in any home.

As a student, I spend a good chunk of the year in Bangor, Maine, and as a student, I use the studio at NESCom to do my portrait shooting during the winter months.

What does this mean, exactly? Well, the studio at NESCom is an “Academic Studio,” and as an Academic Studio it’s use is restricted to non-commercial use.

Now, for me that’s not such a good thing, but for you… Well, it couldn’t be better!

From now until May 15th, 2008, all STUDIO portrait shoots are free-of-charge! This includes a CD of the BEST Full-Resolution photos of the shoot, and one-hour of Post Production time.

Additionally, as part of this special, you retain all duplication and usage rights of your photographs!
